Savory Sausage Pastry Roll

Our savory sausage pastry roll is the kind of dish that brings comfort and a little wow factor all at once. Flaky puff pastry, savory sausage, and our Caramelized Onion & Garlic Jam come together with just a touch of cheese and spinach to keep things balanced. It’s hearty enough for a family supper but also makes a beautiful centerpiece for parties or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

·         1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

·         1 yellow onion, diced

·         Dash of vegetable oil

·         1 lb bulk sausage

·         2 cups fresh spinach

·         1 cup New Canaan Farms Caramelized Onion & Garlic Jam

·         ½ cup cream cheese or Boursin

·         1 egg, beaten (for basting)


Serve With: Mustard, green vegetables, and more Caramelized Onion & Garlic Jam

Directions

1.    Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

2.    Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook for 5 minutes, until translucent.

3.    Add sausage, breaking it up as it cooks. Stir occasionally until cooked through. Season to taste. Stir in spinach until just wilted. Set aside to cool slightly.

4.    On a lightly floured surface, roll out puff pastry and place on a prepared baking sheet. Spread ½ cup Onion & Garlic Jam down the center third, then dot with cream cheese.

5.    Spoon sausage mixture on top, keeping it in the center section and leaving a bit of pastry unfilled at each end.

6.    Cut diagonal strips into the pastry on each side. Fold in the ends, then weave the strips over the filling to seal.

7.    Brush with beaten egg and bake for 20–25 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.

8.    Let cool slightly before slicing. Serve with leafy greens, mustard, and extra Caramelized Onion & Garlic Jam.
