Plumb Crumb Tarte
This recipe walks the line between cake and tarte — soft, crumbly, jammy, and completely irresistible. It’s simple enough to throw together on a weeknight but elegant enough to serve for company. The sweet-tart flavor of our Texas Red Plum Jam really shines here, bubbling up through the buttery crumb topping for a dessert that always feels special.
Serves: 8
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients
· 1½ cups all-purpose flour
· ¾ cup light brown sugar, packed
· 3 tbsp white sugar
· 1½ tsp cinnamon
· 1½ sticks salted butter, melted and cooled
· 1–1½ cups New Canaan Farms Texas Red Plum Jam
Serve With: Vanilla ice cream
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease an 8-inch round tarte pan with a removable bottom.
2. In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, white sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in melted butter with your fingers until the mixture is crumbly.
3. Press half of the crumb mixture into the base of the pan. Dollop half of the plum jam over the top. (It won’t spread evenly — that’s part of the charm.)
4. Add remaining crumb mixture on top, then finish with more dollops of jam.
5. Bake for 30 minutes, until the jam is bubbling and the topping is lightly browned.
6. Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting into slices while still in the pan. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
